New PRCA Site

The PRCA has a new website up and running. So far I really like it. Like anything it will take a few days getting use to navigating it but I liked it.

Prayers headed out to Tucson

Prayers go out to the Boisvert family and all of the people who know this family, who saw the tragic accident and who are involved with the rodeo!

So You Like It Hot?

So you like it hot, huh? Well here is your chance to set your eyes ablaze and your ummm brow a sweating. The 19th Annual Fiery-Foods & Barbecue Show will be held at Sandia Resort & Casino Events Center March 2-4, 2007. For only $10.00 (kids under 12 free) you can live your every dream/nightmare!

This is not for the weak hearted and even less for the weak gutted. If you want an epicurial challenge that is one of a kind this is the event though many places try to imitate and have yet to duplicate, this is the place. Founded by Dave DeWitt near 20 years ago this event has started fads such as the Superhot (too hot for mass consumption, like more than 1 ounce).

When your done visiting the show, comeon out to the Casper Baca Rough Stock Rodeo in Belen (about 40 miles south on I-25) the rodeo starts at 1pm Saturday and Sunday.

Roots

Everyone is wanting to improve the PRCA and bring it back as the #1 rodeo association. While this will be a monumental undertaking I hope that people, especially contestants don't forget where they came from.

While the association may have started at Boston Garden a long time ago. It grew out in the sticks on the backs of dedicated fans who choose to form committees to raise the money to put on these events. While there may not be many $50,000 rodeos and even fewer $50,000 contestants, these are what make the association go round and round.

So if you feel like cutting the small time rodeo and the small time contestant out. I hope your ready to ante up more of the money that supports the PRCA. Just my 2 cents!

Pro Rodeo Cowboys Association Commissioner Resigns

Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association Commissioner Troy Ellerman has resigned his post and received a severance package, after pleading guilty to numerous charges related to the Balco-Steroids scandal.

It is reported that all but two board members voted in favor of giving Mr. Ellerman this severance package. Mr. Ellerman has been replaced by CEO Keith Martin on an interim basis.

Congratulations to JC Bean on winning the Tuff Hedeman West Texas Shootout in El Paso, TX

Congrats to JC Bean who won the Tuff Hedeman West Texas Shootout in El Paso this past Saturday. JC rode Biloxi Blues for a 92 to add to his 88.5 he'd scored in the first round. Other people in the money included Jarrod Craig and Chad Castillo, both covering all of their bulls. Chad Besplug from Claresholm, Alberta, Canada was 90 in the first round but could not maintain the lead when he was blanked by Cash Money.

Last year the event turned away over 500 people at the door, this year once again the event was standing room only! With a packed house Tuff Hedeman the President of the CBR brought home a high electricity event that kept people wondering if they'd been charged enough for their tickets. The contestants brough their "A" game as usual and faced a top pen of bulls. If you where in the first 2 sections of the night it seemed you had a fighting chance. But after those sections the bulls caught another gear and the cowboys had a tough time finding a score.

Casper Baca Series Round 1 in the books

The 31st Annual Casper Baca Rodeo Company Rough Stock Rodeo Series

by Philip Leimbach, http://www.doubleptack.com

The 31st Annual Casper Baca Rodeo Company's Rough Stock Rodeo Series kicked off this weekend in Belen, New Mexico. Once again Casper Baca and family showed off their high caliber livestock with outstanding rides and lots of buckoffs to keep all of the fans on the edge of their seats. With some great weather thrown in by mother nature, it made for a great weekend of rough stock action!

While the Casper Baca Remuda showed off their talents with the likes of Forrie Smith, Kenny McOsker, Kevin Cox and Jimmy Nugent. The crowd waited with baited breath for the biggest attraction to hit the series in years. The wild and wooley Mutton Busting. With plenty of young and fresh faces (Ok the average age was 4) entered up, the crowd roared into a frenzy as they dug in hard for their rides. While the animals may not have had famous names the crowd was into it more than any event in Las Vegas.

Of course each day of the event was caped off with the most dangerous sport in the world. Bull Riding! With dozens of Open and novice bullriders each day showing up to ply their trade, it was anything but boring for the fans. In the Open Bullriding Saturday proved for the most rides as Jesse Griego and Randon Henry showed up in the same car and scored the same 84 points. Brendon Bond did what Simon Said and took home a 78 and Nathan Jones beat on Tom Tom for a 77. But the high score of the round belonged to Avalino (Lino) Baca, no relation, who on Sunday scored the round winning 86 on Black Cloud.

31st Annual Casper Baca Rough Stock Rodeo Series

The first performance of the first round of the 31st Annual Casper Baca Rodeo Company's Rough Stock Series is in the books. From it's humble beginings just outside of Grants, New Mexico to it's status as an institution in the sport of bullriding now residing in Belen, New Mexico, the Series continues to crank out the champions!

This year they kicked off on the nicest day of the year so far with tempatures in the high 40's and only a slight breeze the conditions were perfect for the four legged animals to show their stuff. When a few sticky cowboys were mixed in, the show was pretty dang good!

Kenny McOsker was leading the bareback riding after the first day. While Kevin Cox of Tome, NM had jumped out to the lead in a close Saddle Bronc competition. In the bull riding traveling partners Randon Henry on Bo Dow and Jesse Griego on last years high money bull Snoopy were splitting the round with 84's. While Brendon Bond scored 78 on Simon Sez and Nathan Jones put up a 77 on Tom Tom to show they will be forces to be rekoned with this year.
